It's hard to believe, but back-to-school season is already creeping up on us! To help families get ready, the Raleigh Dream Center is teaming up with Carolina Hurricanes star Jaccob Slavin to host an incredible, free Back2School Bash this Saturday, August 1st.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church (4301 Louisburg Road). It's completely free to attend and is packed with family-friendly fun. Kids can enjoy bounce houses, festival rides, face painting, and special hockey-themed games brought to you by the Canes.

Important note: There is no parking at the event site itself! Attendees must park at Crossroads Fellowship Church (2721 E Millbrook Rd) and take one of the free, continuous shuttles that will be running to and from the bash. It's a wonderful community event that you won't want to miss!

🍻 Sports Fever Brings Record Crowds to Downtown Raleigh

A vibrant, packed summer evening in downtown Raleigh's Glenwood South neighborhood. The wide, tree-lined street is filled with thousands of happy people celebrating, spilling out of bars and restaurants with outdoor patios glowing with warm string lights.

If you've been downtown recently, you've probably noticed that the energy is absolutely off the charts! According to a new report from the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, sports have given our local economy a massive boost this summer.

While many locals typically head to the beach or the mountains in June and July, downtown Raleigh actually saw a 5.4% increase in foot traffic compared to last year. The surge was even more dramatic in the Glenwood South neighborhood, which saw a massive 20.1% year-over-year jump in June!

What's driving the crowds? A perfect storm of communal celebrations. Between the Carolina Hurricanes' historic Stanley Cup run and parade, Raleigh Pride, and massive outdoor watch parties for the World Cup, downtown has been the ultimate gathering place. Even before June began, visitors had already spent $144 million on food and beverages downtown.

With 40 new development projects currently planned or under construction—including thousands of new apartments—the momentum in downtown Raleigh shows no signs of slowing down.

🚀 Ukrainian Drone Maker Skyeton Chooses North Carolina

A sleek, modern drone manufacturing facility interior in North Carolina. Engineers and technicians in clean-room attire work at assembly stations, carefully building and testing advanced long-range surveillance drones.

North Carolina's reputation as a top destination for the aerospace and defense industries just got another major boost! Skyeton, a highly respected Ukrainian drone manufacturer, has announced plans to open its very first North American manufacturing facility right here in our state.

The new plant will be located in Fayetteville, just down the road from Fort Bragg, and is expected to create over 160 high-paying jobs with an average salary of over $70,000. Skyeton is best known for its flagship "Raybird" drone, which is highly regarded for its long-distance intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.

Ukraine has become a global leader in drone technology in recent years, and bringing that expertise to North Carolina is a massive win. The state awarded a $500,000 performance-based grant to help secure the expansion, citing our strong manufacturing workforce and large population of transitioning military personnel as key factors in the deal.

"We're proud to welcome Skyeton to a state with such a proud military tradition and advanced manufacturing base," said Governor Josh Stein. It's an exciting development that further cements our region's status as a hub for cutting-edge technology!
