Nov 12, 2025The Northern Lights are expected to illuminate the skies again tonight, offering a rare spectacle for much of the United States.
The NOAA has announced a Severe (G4) Geomagnetic Storm Watch after an intense X5.1 solar flare erupted, making this one of the year's most significant solar events.
This heightened solar activity could allow the aurora borealis to be seen as far south as Alabama and northern California.
Prime viewing is expected from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. local time. For the clearest sight, head away from city lights and gaze toward the northern horizon.
The intensity and duration of the storm will determine how visible the display becomes tonight, potentially dazzling skywatchers nationwide.
Modern smartphone cameras with night mode can help capture the aurora, even if it’s hard to see unaided.
With solar activity rising, more Americans may have the chance to experience this stunning natural wonder.
