🍬 Lions Park Is Serving Up Free Halloween Fun

Children in cheerful Halloween costumes collect treats from decorated trunks at a warm community fall event.

If you are looking for a low-key, family-friendly way to ease into Halloween weekend, head to **Lions Park** this evening for its free **Trunk-Or-Treat** celebration. The event runs from **4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29**, at 516 Dennis Avenue.

Expect the essentials: costumes, decorated trunks, treats, music, and arts-and-crafts activities. It is the kind of neighborhood gathering where kids can show off their costume choices and grown-ups can enjoy a little fall community spirit without overthinking the plan.

The City is also bringing in community partners, local businesses, City staff, and its Rec’d Out Mobile Recreation Unit to keep the evening moving. That means there should be plenty to see and do beyond the candy circuit.

Costumes are encouraged, everyone is welcome, and the price is right. Grab a treat bag, bring the family, and let Lions Park help kick off your Halloween weekend the local way.

🍣 A New Nikkei Dinner Destination Lands in Downtown Durham

A colorful Japanese-Peruvian dinner spread of ceviche, sushi hand rolls, scallop crudo, grilled steak, and a citrus cocktail in a warm modern restaurant.

Triangle diners have a new reason to plan a night out. **M Nikkei**, the latest concept from Chef Michael Lee’s M Restaurants group, opens this week in downtown Durham in the former M Pocha space.

The restaurant is built around **nikkei cuisine**, a style that blends Japanese and Peruvian culinary traditions. That cross-cultural connection dates back more than a century, when Japanese immigrants settled in Peru and helped shape dishes such as ceviche.

On the opening menu, look for sushi hand rolls, yellowtail ceviche, scallop crudo, steak, and branzino. It is a seafood-forward lineup with enough grilled options to make it a strong pick for a group with different appetites.

Lee has been busy this year—he also opened the upscale Korean restaurant M Hansik over the summer. For Raleigh food fans willing to make the quick trip west, M Nikkei looks like a compelling new chapter in the Triangle’s ever-expanding dining scene.

🤖 Marbles Is Building a Future City—With a Robot Named ABBy

Children use colorful buttons to guide a friendly robotic arm behind a clear safety barrier in a bright future-focused museum workshop.

Downtown Raleigh’s **Marbles Kids Museum** is giving families a peek at the future—and it comes with an interactive robot. The museum’s long-planned **Futuropolis** expansion is taking shape as a multi-level play area where young visitors can explore advanced manufacturing, construction, engineering, and science.

One early star is **ABBy**, a robotic arm sponsored by ABB. Children will be able to press buttons at their height to send a plastic ball through a playful sequence: the arm picks it up, then the ball may spin upward or travel along an assembly line.

The exhibit is not designed as a technical lesson disguised as play. Instead, Marbles is creating an open-ended setting where kids can experiment, ask questions, and imagine themselves in the jobs that will shape the region’s future.

Futuropolis is expected to begin receiving exhibits next month, with an opening planned for early 2027. For now, consider this your reminder to keep an eye on the museum—Raleigh’s youngest innovators are about to get a very fun new lab.
